who wants to play a new game?
I finally got in contact with CAS, more than three weeks after I was promised a phone call or email letting me know their decision from my three different interviews with their company. Their decision? They're not filling the position I applied for until later in the spring, but that when they do decide to fill the position, I will continue to be considered for it. So, not officially a dead end, but not a job offer either.
I've stopped applying for jobs requiring my (or any) college degree for the time being. The reason for that is one of my professors didn't get my final grade reported in time for me to get my diploma, so when prospective employers call the university to verify my degree, they're told I didn't fulfill the requirements and that I'm one (ONE!) credit-hour shy of completion.
Said professor (Prof. Brazilian) is still missing in action. I've called, emailed, demanded, begged, pleaded with her to get my grades submitted, but there's been no word. Because I finished the courses for my degree in an off-semester, the deadlines for submitting my grades were different than it would have been had I graduated in May. I can appreciate the fact that a newer professor might not know this. I didn't know either until the deadline was past and I got notice saying my degree was being held in limbo.
My academic adviser is helping from the campus, since there's not a whole lot I can do from a couple hundred miles a day. He's camped out by her office, stalked the secretaries, and tried to weasel Prof Brazilian's home phone number out of them to no avail. My adviser has been a huge help, and I've seen him get fired up about injustices involving his advisees before, so I knew that he'd be a good person to have on my side for something like this. I don't know why I waited as long as I did to contact him.
Anyway, point being that I'm now filling out job applications for places like grocery stores, video rental places,pr0n stores, and telemarketing firms. Yes, I've done telemarketing in the past. Yes, I liked it. No, it's not ideal, but it's better than nothing. I've also spent more than my fair share of time working ridiculous hours at an inconvenience store. I loved the job; hated the coworkers. Basically, I'm willing to work pretty much anywhere as long as it'll get me out of the house for a few hours a week and let me bring home a couple bucks twice a month.
I've turned into quite the little unmarried housewife lately. My day's full of laundry, dishes, straightening up the house, and filling out job applications while swearing at the cat for licking my lunch when I turn my back for half a second. I've also discovered that once I learned where things go in the kitchen, I could unload the dishwasher faster than I can microwave a bowl of macaroni.
