my frisbee brings the noise

I doubt anyone will notice, but one of my recent'ish posts has been taken down. The more I thought about that one, the more I realized that I'd totally failed at making my point.

The point is, I'm done apologizing for being happy.

Maybe I'll come back and elaborate on that. Maybe I won't.

The Captain's contract with the tax software company is rapidly drawing to a close, and they've been incredibly overstaffed since Tax Day has come and gone. So, he got sent home the other day and we spent the weekend with some of his friends. They've been together for years and just recently finalized their marriage.

We went over to their house for the maiden voyage of Grill-zilla for the year, which involved grilling at least five different types of meat. After The Captain stuffed himself silly (there really wasn't anything there that I could eat without spending the next two days vomiting every seven minutes, so I just drank entirely too much soda) we checked out WebKinz with Rob's 10 year old daughter. Apparently The Captain is the Coolest Guy Ever to this kid.

After dark, we went to the beach with a light-up Frisbee and the kid. We shucked our shoes and waded in the water, which surprisingly wasn't as cold as we'd expected it to be. Before our toes got eaten off by the crap in the water, we went across the street and started throwing the Frisbee around.

This kid was hilarious. She'd throw the Frisbee, and it would go absolutely nowhere near any other person, so she'd run and chase it. She really didn't even need us to play with her. For at least half an hour, she threw and chased the Frisbee, only stopping when her little legs wouldn't run anymore. The Captain ended up having to carry her to the car.

Tracie and I hung back, watching The Captain (who at this point had his shirt off and jeans rolled up to the knees) carrying a limp 50 pound child to the car. We talked about how much he's changed just in the last year, going from the guy who swore he'd never have kids and didn't want anything to do with kids, to the guy who'd take his best friend's kid out to the beach and play with her for hours.

He looks good with a kid. He's going to make a great dad some day. Hopefully soon. Ish.
